`g:nvim_tree_quit_on_open` doesn't work?

I was trying to toggle this option in case I needed to open a few files at once before closing the tree. I noticed that whether it was 0 or 1, the tree would close whenever a file was opened.

Here is my minimal init.vim:

There's no change with 0 for me, each time I open a file the tree closes

I'm seeing the same thing. Basically as soon as this line runs, the tree view is gone (for example, I can insert a return right after the vim.cmd(cmd) call, and the tree view is gone, replaced by the opened file.

The setting works as expected for me. I'm loading nvim-tree through packer:

With the above config, hitting <leader>n opens the tree on the right side of the screen. Hitting <cr> on a file will open the file, and the tree closes.

If I change the quit_on_open line to be g.nvim_tree_quit_on_open = 0, hitting <cr> on a file will open the file and leave the tree open.

@jason0x43 can you try the minimal repro from the OP? Save to a file and run nvim -u <file>

The minimal config works as expected, too.

With this config:

"test_cfg.vim
let g:nvim_tree_quit_on_open = 0
packadd nvim-tree.lua

and running nvim with

> nvim -u test_cfg.vim --noplugin

I can open the tree with :NvimTreeOpen, select a file, hit enter, and the tree will stay open. If I change the config file to have let g:nvim_tree_quit_on_open = 1, then hitting enter on a file in the tree will open the file and close the tree.

That's really weird. I guess the only thing to do from here is look at what cmd is running from above.

Edit: it's also possible this is a new 0.6 issue, don't know how likely that is

I installed the current neovim head (v0.6.0-dev+5377b2b00), and the tree still worked properly, at least with the minimal config. 🤷‍♂️

The command that's run at line 381 in lib.lua, at least for me, is just edit <selected file>.

This looks to be an interaction with :mkview/:loadview.

Just say you have a config similar to the one shown in :h :loadview:

And say you have a relatively restricted 'viewoptions' setting, like:

:set viewoptions=cursor,folds

I've found that if I delete all my view files from 'viewdir', I can open files from nvim-tree without the tree window closing. But, the next time I try to open such a file (ie. once a view file is on the disk), then the tree window closes.

The clue lies in the view file; here's a sample one:

Note that SessionLoadPost at the end. And note that nvim-tree is listening for that event:

the tree conflicts quite a lot with vim sessions, i will take a look at this and try to find a proper solution for it.
