Steps
Go to a forum from a normal user which has unread posts/comments added by some other user (ex user- TopConnCustomer / link - https://vanilla.topcoder-dev.com/categories/48fb2a82-2d4b-449d-a7a1-150e735b5eb2)
Check if the unread category or threads under it are shown in bold or any other indicator to show new post/comment
Click on ellipsis on any thread
Click Mark Read

Actual result
There's no indication of new posts/comments so the Mark read functionality doesn't show any difference

Note: In the current forums unread forums are shown with a bold title

@atelomycterus - Did we turn off this notification because the count was wrong on groups? Anything we can do to make it more accurate?

@jmgasper Yes, count labels are hidden. It is necessary to count the number of new posts, taking into account the user's rights in groups.

@jmgasper I've turned on it locally. The category labels display total count of discussions ( $Category->CountAllDiscussions).
Does it make sense to display total count in the left nav?

New posts/comments

I've checked Vanilla source code, Unfortunately, no labels how many new posts/comments but Vanilla displays tags if posts/comments haven't been read. Displaying labels depends on DateLastVisit, Discussion DateLastViewed an so on.

User can click on 'Mark Read' and the category is marked explicitly read:

I looked at the old forum, did not find that new posts were somehow highlighted.
Please let me know what should be implemented.

@atelomycterus - New posts were generally listed in bold in the old forums. Can we just remove Mark Read for now while we discuss how to show unread posts?
