Potential Load issue for Direct servers

Wipro users for Topcoder/direct platform are experiencing issues. Page contents are not shown. it gives error message related to Pages are currently not available.
on further checking it seems that its because of the excess load on the server.

@skyhit We seem to be having this issue in both Direct and OR, especially on challenges that have groups set on them. I have a feeling it's at least partially due to some inefficiencies in the group processing logic. Is there anything you can think of that we can do to make it perform better.

Some info about the behavior: In most cases it seems like the changes get saved in OR when a 502 happens. So, the data is updated, but the web page still times out waiting for a response. If you then go to the page again directly, you will see the updated data. This is happening when saving updates to a challenge (like removing/adding a resource) as well as scorecard saves.
