I'm happy to approve this but the build log does not look great :/

This potentially fixes errors in CI. Release branches
should not reference HEAD or main because they can
contain invalid xrefs. Instead, only the main branch
of the docs should mention other main branches to
produce a nightly version.

It never looked great, because it was broken all along. Commit fb38737 fixes it. In essence: release branches should not mention HEAD or main at all because it contains invalid/unknown xrefs.
