This change has been made in version 4.4.0 (commit 86dec7e). I think the correct thing to do would have been in version 5.x as you mention in the issue.
Actually, this change is a breaking change for us and it is breaking our projects.

After migrating from 4.3 to 5.1 I got two problems:

• Errors "StringQuery created from StringQuery(String) cannot have parameters"
• after converting StringQuery to N1qlQuery, the pagination and sorting on Query object do not work
