Commit Messages

We want to keep history, but for that to actually be useful we have
some rules on how to format our commit messages (relevant xkcd).

Please stick to these guidelines for commit messages:

  1. Separate subject from body with a blank line
  2. When fixing an issue, start your commit message with Fix #<ISSUE-NBR>:
  3. Limit the subject line to 72 characters
  4. Capitalize the subject line
  5. Do not end the subject line with a period
  6. Use the imperative mood in the subject line ("Added" instead of "Add")
  7. Wrap the body at 80 characters
  8. Use the body to explain what and why vs. how

We still get some weird errors in cases where we don't do result type inference:

trait Literal {
  type G
}

trait Addition { self: Literal =>
  def foo: G
}

object Test {
  def expression(adder: Addition) = {
    println(adder.foo)
  }
}
-- [E007] Type Mismatch Error: try/i3083.scala:11:18 ---------------------------
11 |    println(adder.foo)
   |            ^^^^^^^^^
   |            found:    adder.G
   |            required: Any
   |

Also, I think we hhould have an additional pos test which is identical to https://github.com/dotty-staging/dotty/blob/6dac50abec83892a54d9c69eeab545e0484c1e27/tests/neg/i3083.scala but with adder: Addition replaced by adder: Addition & Literal to make sure that this continue working.
