Addresses various issues for current editor crash

Fixes current crashes in the editor identified in various server logs.

Updates the following functions and files to async/await syntax:

• getUser() in client/modules/User/actions.js
• LocalStrategy in server/config/passport.js
• createUser() in server/controllers/user.controller.js
• sendMail(), and combines dispatchMail() with send() in server/utils/mail.js

I have verified that this pull request:

• has no linting errors (npm run lint)
• has no test errors (npm run test)
• is from a uniquely-named feature branch and is up to date with the release branch.
• is descriptively named and links to an issue number, i.e. Fixes #123
