Description
Context
I was trying to identify data types in columns with mixed data types:
df.map(pd.api.types.infer_dtype)
Pandas version checks
- I have checked that this issue has not already been reported.
- I have confirmed this bug exists on the latest version of pandas.
- I have confirmed this bug exists on the main branch of pandas.
Reproducible Example
import pandas as pd
pd.api.types.infer_dtype(1)
pd.api.types.infer_dtype(1.0)
pd.api.types.infer_dtype(True)

Expected Behavior
According to the documentation, pd.api.types.infer_dtype() should accept scalar input.
