\MongoDB\BSON\UTCDateTime issue

the extension.

All BSON\UTCDateTime implimentations are returning MongoDB\Driver\Exception\UnexpectedValueException: Got unsupported type 0 'unknown' when i attempt to insert or update any records in a collection

I was previously using 1.2.9 of the mongodb.dll and installed the latest 1.3.0beta1 release a few days ago with the same result

the fields causing the issue are the UTCDateTime fields (startDate, and lastModifiedDate) removing these results in successful insertion.

This does not throw an error on php5.6.23 current phpinfo dump below

Environment

MongoDB\Driver\Exception\UnexpectedValueException: Got unsupported type 0 'unknown' when i attempt to insert or update any records in a collection

This exception originates in php_phongo_bson_append(), which handles encoding a PHP value to BSON. It is thrown after we handle various supported zval types in the switch's default case this line. A zval type of 0 would hint at an uninitialized value in PHP 7, and should not happen in practice but could indicate a bug in either an extension or PHP core, which would have access to the underlying C structure.

Could you explain where the argument to MongoDB\Driver\BulkWrite::insert() originates? Was this value assembled entirely in your own application? Was it the result of a previous database query? Aside from the two MongoDB\BSON\UTCDateTime objects within, did the object or any of its fields interact with other PHP extensions?

The most important thing to provide would be a complete PHP script that can reproduce the exception. Are you able to extra all relevant code (including the Project class) to a file that constructs a new object and attempts to insert it to trigger the exception? I don't believe a MongoDB connection is even required, as you may be able to create an independent MongoDB\Driver\BulkWrite object to call insert() on directly (the exception is thrown well before the driver attempts to execute the write operation). If you can provide a PHP file that reproduces the issue reliably on your end, we can then spin up an XAMPP environment to attempt reproduction on our end.

Testing other PHP versions

I noticed you reproduced this behavior with both version 1.2.9 and 1.3.0BETA1 of the driver. Were both tests conducted with PHP 7.1.7? Are you able to reproduce the error using other versions of PHP? I would suggest trying the latest PHP 7.1.8 and PHP 7.0.22 releases. If possible, a test with PHP 5.6.31 may also be helpful (to determine if this is only an issue with PHP 7.x).

Encoding the object with other PHP functions

Additionally, it would be helpful if you could share output from serialize() and json_encode() for the offending document that causes MongoDB\Driver\BulkWrite::insert() to fail. I'll point out that json_encode() actually has similar logic here, and is likely to also report an error (through json_last_error()) for an unexpected zval type.

Adding the offending field name to the exception message

As you're on Windows, I imagine it's not possible for you to recompile the driver from source; however, I was going to suggest the following change so we can determine which field name is causing this error:

This issue does not show up on 5.6.* . yes both test with the 2 drivers were conducted with php 7.1.7 . Further experimenting revealed this only occurs when i unset the null properties of the class prior to inserting. I have included a script which stimulates what im doing and fails the same. if you comment out line 180 it will success with the insert.

The file you provided is only about 160 lines long, so I don't believe we're looking at the same file. That said, I need a complete PHP script that can be reproduce the exception when interpreted (e.g. php error.php from the CLI or running the script through a web SAPI). The script you provided is only the class you're using to insert data, so I'm requesting you add code after the class definition to construct a document, insert it, and produce the error (in your environment).

Feel free to omit the connection host/port, as you did in the previous attachment. That said, I still don't believe constructing a MongoDB\Driver\Manager is required if you are only seeing the exception from MongoDB\Driver\BulkWrite::insert().

Additionally, once you can reproduce the error, please confirm if the same document also fails to serialize with json_encode(). As I noted above, both the PHP driver and the JSON extension have similar logic for traversing PHP values for serialization.
