Programmer missing from list

Seems to be a dupe of #1298

With the board selected, COM port selected when I click the programmer in the status bar or use Ctrl+Shift+P Arduino:Select Programmer a number of the expected values are missing (including AVRISPmkii which is what I need).

I can workaround it by manually setting arduino.json to include "programmer": "arduino:avrispmkii", so it's there and working, just not being detected for some reason.

Could you provide us with some information in order to help us repro this?

Hi, thanks for looking.

I am using a genuine Arduino UNO R3, I don't have any other boards right now but I am waiting for a clone Nano I can test with too once it arrives.

No project as such but it's repeatable:

• Create a new Foo.ino file in a folder called Foo and save.
• Perform any "Arduino" action which makes VS Code realise the this is an Arduino project. eg "Arduino: Board Manager" or skip to next step and use the "Arduino: Board config" option.
• Select the board type (I used the status bar as it's easier)
• Select programmer, items are missing.

Doesn't seem to make any difference if the board is connected/COM port selected or not.

I've tried using "Change Board Type" to change to ATTiny and then back but that didn't seem to fix the issue.

What board type are you choosing? When I just followed your steps and used Arduino Uno for the board config, I couldn't repro your issue.

Let us know if there are any configurations that we should attempt to repro with in order to help you fix this issue!

I think I've worked out where the issue is coming from. This should repo it:

• In Arduino IDE (or code but I don't know how to do this bit)
• File - Preferences and paste "http://drazzy.com/package_drazzy.com_index.json" into "Additional Boards Manager URls"
• Open the board manager and install "ATTinyCore"

Now open VS Code and try and set the programmer.

If I uninstall ATTinyCore (I can leave it in the settings) I get the expected list of programmers. So it seems vscode-arduino is getting confused by the additional installed boards.

Probably clear as mud but I hope it helps.

I am programming an attiny85 chip without bootloader with an external 16mhz crystal using Arduino Uno R3 as programmer and faced the same problem @themaninthesuitcase!

I'm using VS Code with your Plugin.
Exactly the same problem that the friend reported occurs. Exactly the same.

My solution was edit the arduino.json file from the .vscode folder manually.
In my case, the file looked like this:

The line "programmer":"arduinoasisp" is what solves the problem.

I had to change the file manually because VS Code is not displaying "Arduino as ISP" in the list of programmers whenever "non-standard" boards are added as the friend previously reported.
