Request for feature

Magento needs a way of representing a product view with a configurable product, In other words a product image that changes based on it's simple product attributes. I know lots of people that have been requesting this capability. If we build a configurable product and assign multiple simple product to the configurable, there should be a way to change the product image on the customer end, based on the customers choices.

I think the intention is to develop a platform which other developers can build upon, in this case you would want one of the many 'swatch' extensions available. Not every feature request can be satisfied but there is always another way...

No that is not what I'm requesting. I requesting a core feature or capability. I don't believe the intention of Magento is to be used primarily by developers.

In fact there are few extension that do such thing, but I agree with the
guys on a core functionality would be great.

Especially because those extension usually create conflicts with core
functionalities.

Hi. Actually Magento is a development framework and our idea was to have a set of core functionality and the extension ecosystem to fill in the gaps. I do understand that swatch could be part of core functionality unfortunately we focus on different areas right now. However if anyone can contribute such addition by a pull request, we can definitely try to take it into the core.
