Doesn't work when installed via npm

When I install the tool via npm, my editor doesn't display any information from bash-language-server, as if I don't have it installed. When I compile the latest master from source, everything works.

I also tried npm install bash-language-server (so that it installs locally a fresh installation) and pointing my editor to the binary, still no luck.

I'm honestly puzzled, and the first thing I want to ask is this: is it possible that whatever got on npm.com doesn't match the current master?

And error message do you get if you do a bash-language-server in a shell?

Arch Linux, this started to happen after update to 1.4.0 via official package distribution, and I could reproduce it by installing npm install command, but not if I compile manually.

There is no errors if I run bash-language-server start in a shell (no output at all), and I see that my editor (kakoune, via kak-lsp) does start the bash-language-server start command as well, but the editor doesn't (seemingly) receive any info from the server. And if I point the editor to a locally-compiled bash-language-server of the latest master, it works.

That's why I came here to verify if someone else can reproduce this as well.

@mads-hartmann regardless of what happens to this ticket, could you please start tagging releases? This would help building the package from sources for a specific version.

@maximbaz I'll keep this open until the next release at least - I can't totally rule out that I fucked something up during the npm package release so perhaps with the next release things will be resolved :)

@mads-hartmann thanks, could you tag the current release as well please? I'd like to try to come up with an alternative build steps for Arch Linux and send them as proposal to the current maintainer (it would be cool in general to build directly from sources), and an existing tag would allow me to work on it now.

@maximbaz I've just created a tag server-1.4.0 for the 1.4.0 release of the bash-language-server. I created a publish script so all releases will be tagged going forward 👍

Just to follow up on this, I prepared build steps for Arch Linux that use tagged releases and sent them to the current maintainer of the Arch Linux package. Didn't hear back from him yet, but hopefully soon every Arch Linux user will enjoy the new way of building package. Until then, the PKGBUILD is available here.
