If I :source $MYVIMRC vim will focus on the NvimTree

The title said it all, if you source the init.lua within the nvim, the focus will jump to the nvimtree, mkre frustrating if it's open in another tab. How I can disable it ? BTW I want to have Nvim tree opened by default when start vim. The setup :

Steps to reproduce :

• open nvim
• if nvim-tree is not set to be opened at startup, open the nvim-tree
• Open a bunch of new tabs without nvim-tree
• run :source $MYVIMRC in one of the tabs (except the one that includes nvim-tree pane)
• You will see that nvim will jump into nvim-tree's pane

So I tried it again with the minimal config like this :

The steps I take :

1. Open nvim
2. Open fabulous nvim-tree with NvimTreeOpen
3. Open newtab
4. In the new tab run : source $MYVIMRC

I've tried replicating:

• fix the syntax errors in .vimrc
• add my vundle to rtp
• add the vundle dir to #begin
• add lua require("nvim-tree").setup() to .vimrc
• nvim -nu init.vim

It's not clear when and how you are calling setup as they are not in the above init files.

Please raise a bug with full instructions for replication:

• where to put the exploded vundle, with the appropriate rtp additions
• full .vimrc with no syntax errors, including the setup call
• full init.vim
• exact instructions on how to start vim; $MYVIMRC is not set when using -u

Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if I understood your reply well. I'm not quite familiar with all the terms here. If I understood it right, by running nvim -nu init.vim, the $MYVIMRC is not set so we eliminate the context in which this bug occurs. Like almost all other nvim users, I switched to Nvim from Vim. I got a .vimrc that I want to keep around. I just removed every thing from my vimrc and init.lua. These are their content :

set nocompatible              " be iMproved, required
filetype off                  " required

"set the runtime path to include Vundle and initialize
set rtp+=~/.vim/bundle/Vundle.vim/
call vundle#begin()

You mentioned you fixed the syntax errors in vimrc .
My first question is: Do you see any discrepancies in my minimal .vimrc and init.lua ?
If yes so, please let me know, if not I appreciate it if you try this config (calling vimrc from init.lua) and see if you encounter the same issue. The steps are the same :

• Open nvim
• Open fabulous nvim-tree with NvimTreeOpen
• Open newtab
• In the new tab run : source $MYVIMRC

PS: You are right about how I call setup function It's right below the vim.cmd() section, I just didn't mention it in my previous comment.

I am able to replicate: calling require("nvim-tree").setup() will change to the tab with nvim-tree. If we were already in that tab when calling setup, the tree is closed. Raised #1491

RE your init/vimrc: pick init.lua or init.vim (.vimrc) and stick to it. I'm using vundle with an init.vim.
