This achievement brings the company closer towards FedRAMP Moderate authorization, showcasing commitment to meeting security and compliance needs, and will soon be available for self-serve customers

May 12, 2025 - GitHub announced today that GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency is now available in the United States. This offering paves the way for customers with stringent data location requirements or preferences to migrate to GitHub Enterprise Cloud by providing the robust controls and enterprise-grade governance that large organizations demand. It is also the first step toward achieving GitHub Enterprise Cloud’s compliance with Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Moderate to meet extended compliance needs of the U.S. federal government.

“Customers are looking to maximize flexibility and control with the cloud. The launch of GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency in the U.S. is the next step towards reaching GitHub’s FedRAMP Moderate authorization, providing our most regulated customers all the the benefits of the GitHub cloud platform within the governance and control security frameworks these organizations require,” said Alexis Wales, Chief Information Security Officer at GitHub.

GitHub Enterprise Cloud is designed to empower organizations with the scalability of the cloud and the flexibility to control where their code and repository data reside. Powered by Microsoft Azure's enterprise-grade infrastructure and security, customer code is protected both in transit and at rest, benefiting from Microsoft's high standards and operational excellence. GitHub Enterprise Cloud is actively pursuing FedRAMP Moderate authorization to meet the security and compliance standards required by federal agencies and organizations in highly-regulated industries.
