I'd be totally in favor of such an API extension 👍 |

Very important when it comes to port sketches from one architecture to another, like the transition from UNO R3 to UNO R4, which is a compatible hardware replacement. One of my sketches uses a terminal (USB or telnet) and offers a "reboot"-command. On AVR I did this by watchdog. Moving to ARM would be much more easier with such a generic command. |

As of today, the Arduino API does not contain any standard instruction for software reset. This operation is highly architecture-dependent so users need to implement it differently according to the hardware they are using, making code less portable.
We are proposing to add a new instruction to the standard Arduino API, called
reboot()
that each core can implement.Opinions?
